The Notion:

Long Distance Relationships(LDR) have a lot of pre-conceived notions built around it, to the point where one is already influenced about how the distance will now, go down the distance drain. The right mindset is everything and the only thing you need to make the distance seem like nothing.

Communicate:

Expressing yourself, and communicating are your weapons to keep any and all negative vibes away from your relation. Don’t be texting and talking all the time to maintain the balance of not being “available” all time. However, fix a schedule sort matching the time zone differences to know when to expect to see her face brighten your screen or her voice soothe you. Express yourself, tell her when you miss her, drop her texts for her to wake up to.

With the world in your palm and the Internet closing in the miles, turn the Wednesday Date Nights to Facetime Nights and Weekend Exploration to probably giving her tour around the new city. Keeping her involved and reaching out to her, not only shows how much you miss her but also that you still want to share your milestones and life with her. Also, if all fails, tag her on the long-distance relationships’ memes in abundance all over the Gram, it has to get her going all happy and aw.

Surprise!

Females, are a sucker for getting surprised, LDR or not. Don’t let the distance get in your way of creativity. You do not need an occasion, necessarily to surprise your better half. Sending across something as small as a bouquet of flowers can keep your relationship breathing as fresh as ever. For the more important dates, birthday and anniversary included, keep reminders in case it slips off your mind.

Ground Rules:

Have some ground rules in place for both of you. Now that you have ample of “Me Time”, there is always going to be some amount of insecurity, protectiveness, and possessiveness that crops up. If she feels your getting friendly has gotten getting flirty, listen to her, explain your part and re-work it. Its smaller aspects of such kind that snowball the distance into larger issues. Try to keep it as transparent with her as you would expect her to be. Being emphatic to the other’s feelings is the only way you would work it through when you lack face to face conversations to ‘sort it out’.

Opportunity:

Don’t get us messed up, but this is an opportunity, to figure things out and make the most of it. Keep your focus on why you are, where you are and give yourself the liberty and freedom to know your own self and divulge in your own company. The distance is a chance to appreciate all that you have, the smaller instances of the bliss of being able to hold hands to the wait of seeing each other. Give the opportunity the time to work its best course for the two of you.
