Various Versions Of Love : Types Of Relationships

The world is huge and there are so many different types of people. And so many people make so many relationships. And just like every person is different, their expectation from relationships are also different. There are various kinds of relationships too, read on to know.

1. Monogamy

This is the most traditional type of relationship and everyone is aware of this type. Since childhood, children understand and take this as the most natural relationship as they see it exhibited by their parents. Monogamy is all about having one love interest/sexual partner at a time. Most people who enter into “traditional” relationships and marriages do so because they want monogamy, though they might change their mind later and chose to not stay that way.

2. Polyamorous Relationship

Some people do not want to stick with a single partner, hence they chose to enter a polyamorous relationship. When someone is polyamorous, that means they have multiple romantic relationships at a time. Generally, polyamorous couples have a primary partner, a secondary partner, etc. with the understanding that these “rankings” may change according to their individual needs. The secret to any happy relationship, but especially polyamorous ones, is frank and easy communication between all persons involved.

3. Open Relationship

Open relationships are like a hybrid of monogamous and polyamorous relationships. An open relationship allows both partners to share physical intimacy with other people, but they must reserve their emotional intimacy for each other. So each of them can have as many sexual partners as they want, but a romantic partner is only one.

4. Long-Distance Relationship

The name explains itself very well, doesn’t it? This type of relationship occurs when partners have to live away from each other, especially different cities or sometimes even different countries. This is most difficult if the partners are truly in love and yet have to live far apart because of some unavoidable circumstances like studying or jobs. And couples tend to break up because distance creates a lot of misunderstandings. The best way to deal with this is to understand each others time schedules and being honest with each other. Managing time to have at least a few hours to talk to each other.

5. Casual Sex Relationship

In a casual sex relationship, two people agree to have sex with each other regularly — and that’s all. Those in casual sex relationships can be physically and/or emotionally intimate with others as well, as long as all the people concerned are okay with it. Casual sex relationships can sometimes be “exclusive” — meaning neither person sleeps with anyone else — which is similar to monogamous relationships but without any emotional attachment.

6. Friends With Benefits

A “friends with benefits” relationship is very much like a casual sex relationship, but there is an important difference — there is an established, platonic friendship. Often, “friends with benefits” relationships begins when two friends with mutual sexual attraction, decide to be physically intimate. Aside from the sexual relationship, the partners behave like friends, totally platonic. Usually, ‘friends with benefits’ relationship ends when one or both partners start to date someone else.

7. Asexual Relationship

Asexual people are those who don’t experience sexual desire or attraction to others, but they still want to participate in a romantic relationship. Asexual people generally date people who can ensure a purely asexual relationship. Although sometimes asexual person dates a sexual person and that relationship might need some compromise.
